“It's okay if you mess up. You should give yourself a break.”
When Andy came home from working the night shift, he had expected to find his sister sitting cross-legged on the couch, in her pajamas, with a huge bowl of cereal in her lap, watching TV. That was the usual Sunday morning routine, and while Andy had seen several variants on that routine, he hadn’t see this one.
Marion was still in the clothes she wore to the bar the night before, make-up smeared on her face, but she seemed to have missed the couch she was aiming for and landed on top of—a rather tall individual Andy didn’t recognize. Marion was resting on the man’s chest, and the man had an arm draped around his sister’s waist. Now, they both looked mighty comfortable, and Andy was glad that they still had all their clothes on because frankly, that was a side of his sister he never wanted to see—ever—but the man’s hand was starting to slip a little to close to the areas of his sister’s anatomy that people just weren’t supposed to touch, and that had to stop. Like, now.
“So.” He said loudly, his hand pushing the door behind him closed with a loud SLAM!, and he watched, smirking slightly as the two people on the floor jumped awake, wincing from the loud noises that weren’t exactly agreeing with their hangovers. He started to make his way closer, sliding his hands into the pockets of his uniform. “Did everybody have a good evening?”
“God, Andy,” Marion groaned, eyes pinched closed as she pushed herself off the floor. “Why do you have to be such a douchebag?” Her hand landed on the man’s chest under her, and he grunted slightly at the pressure. At that, his sister’s eyes flew open and she looked down, before jumping away from the man under her like she had been shot. “Oh, fuck.”
Now Andy was more confused than malicious. Because it wasn’t like the guy was an ogre. He was decent. There was a possibility that his sister never intended to bring him home, but—she hadn’t done anything. She shouldn’t be reacting like that. There was more to this particular story, and Andy was suddenly really curious to find out, but Marion was gone before he could stop her, disappearing into her bedroom and closing the door behind her. The guy started to push himself up on his hands, before looking back at Andy with a confused look.
“Was it something I—”
Andy sighed heavily before moving forward, clapping the man on the back hard as he pulled him to his feet. “Don’t sweat it, buddy. My sister’s a psycho. Let’s get you a cab.”
“Your sister?” The guy’s eyebrow went up slightly as he got to his feet, and Andy nodded slowly.
“Yup. I’m one of her many brothers. Who the hell are you?”
The guy paused for a minute. “Alex—Thomas. I work with her.”
Andy paused as he was reaching for the guy’s phone, apparently abandoned somewhere in the time that it took them to get to the floor as oppose to the couch. He tilted his head to the side as he looked at him, trying to place the name and failing until he realized—oh, Lordy. This was a problem.
“You’re her new boss.” A confused expression crossed Alex’s face, and Andy rolled his eyes before slamming the phone into the guy’s chest. “Fantastic. Well, that explains one thing.”
“Explains what?” Alex frowned.
“Just call yourself a cab, dude. Trying to explain the inner workings of my sister to you would take longer than you probably want.” He paused for a moment, before looking up at him. “But if you screw her over? There are four of us. We may not all live in the immediate vicinity, but you’d be surprised at how cheap air fare is these days. We will all gang up on you and beat you senseless if you hurt her. Capice?”
“Dude, whoa—” Alex held his hands up as though he was trying to defend himself. “We were just having a drink, that’s all.”
“Right.” Andy gave the guy a look. “I always wind up passed out on the living room floor with a girl on top of me when we’re just having drinks.” Who did this guy think he was talking to, a virgin? “Just call your cab, man.”
“Fine,” Alex replied with a sigh. “I will.”

When Marion finally emerged from her room, Andy was waiting at the door, arms crossed in front of his chest. The cab for Alex had come rather quickly, and now he was just waiting for his sister to come out so he could talk to her. He changed out of his uniform, because he planned on going to sleep as soon as he was done. When she finally opened the door, hair wet and seeming a bit more refreshed from the shower, she looked up at him with a slight look and rolled her eyes.
“Don’t give me that—after all the times I’ve come home to find you having sex on the couch—”
“Not about that,” Andy replied, shaking his head slightly. “Please tell that that minor freakout wasn’t about that douchebag you left back in Jersey.”
Marion groaned slightly as she leaned against the doorframe, rubbing her forehead lightly. “Andy, I’m not well enough to be having this conversation.”
“Too bad,” Andy said, pulling one hand out and pointing it towards the door Alex had exited. “That guy? Didn’t seem like a douchebag to me. And I know douchebags.”
“That’s not the point. The point is that I screwed up, and I don’t want to talk about it.”
“So what if he’s your boss, Mar?” Andy gave her a look. “He’s still just a guy like everybody else.”
“He’s my boss, Andy,” she shot back. “I was the girl who was sleeping with the boss before, and I don’t want to be that girl again.”
“And who says you will be?”
“Andy—”
“Okay, okay. Let’s say you really have screwed up.” He paused for a moment, before moving over and pulling his sister into a warm hug. “You are human, ya know. It’s allowed to happen sometimes.” Marion was quiet, and he sighed slightly, kissing the top of her head. “C’mon. Let’s just get some sleep.”
“Okay,” she sighed softly. It was going to be a long day.
